Many, but not all, of our pages carry date information on the various rifles illustrated or discussed, where it has been possible to be sure of data.

There are a number of methods by which a rifle can be dated, or at least bracketed between certain years of manufacture.

For the latter, dates of introduction of military arms can be located within the Government "List of Changes" (Lo Cs) as can dates of obsolescence and of modification or upgrade to later marks.

By seeking the marks listed in the table, the latest a gun could have been proved originally can be established, as can the time frame of any re-proof that may have been applied later in the gun’s life.

The serial number found on your gun has the answer. To find your serial number, you will need to refer to your owner's manual. While every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided on serial numbers and dates of manufacture are accurate, records on early production models such as the Auto-5 and Superposed shotguns were not included due to the complexity of numbers, models and grades offered.

Also, there have been unique limited edition models that did not follow our regular serial number configurations and they are not included in this listing.
